After winning the final round of the British Gas Green Streets challenge in November 2009, the village of Llangattock is now being prepared for the first of a possible 50 solar photovoltaic panel installations.

The Glastonbury festival has long been renowned for its rainy atmosphere and the promise of mud. However the festival may get new branding in line with this year’s expected weather forecast, as the founder of the event, Michael Eavis, begins construction of the country’s largest privately owned solar power farm.

vogt group, advised by former Q-Cells CEO Anton Milner, has won the contract for the UK’s first solar photovoltaic power plant. The 5MW installation will be located on a 12.8 hectare site on a quarry in the southwest of England.

According to the recent study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers – “On the brink of a bright future?” – the newly introduced feed-in tariff will increase the UK’s solar photovoltaic market five-fold in 2010 alone.

The feed-in tariff is attracting all types of new entrants to the UK solar industry and not all of them are reputable. Do these companies truly understand our market conditions?

Suntech Power, the world's largest producer of crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules, has now received official certification under the UK Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for its modules.

Now that the UK feed-in tariff is in place, UK farmers are set for some good news. As opposed to using their cropland for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems, they can use the often-large rooftop surfaces to generate renewable electricity.

Euro-Line Solar has formed an exclusive partnership in order to promote the Dorfmueller Solaranlagen DMI inverter series to the UK solar photovoltaics market. Through this agreement, Euro-Line Solar will become the sales and marketing extension for the UK. The DMI inverters, manufactured for the on-grid photovoltaic solar market, have been introduced in-line with the newly announced feed-in tariff scheme in the UK.

Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth has awarded a Queen’s Enterprise Award, in the Innovation category, for the development of DuPont’s Solamet photovoltaic metallization paste. 

Sundog Energy, provider of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, based in Cumbria, has been awarded a £1.3million contract to provide a large solar PV system on the roof of Kings Cross Station in London. Once complete, the system will be one of the largest solar installations in the country.
